Kohleria "Designer's Helloween"

It's glad to see Designer's Helloween blooming again, it almost died out last year but finally I got 2 survivals in this blooming season in the end of March.

Flowering Kohleria

All are tall cultivars that require space for free growing, and then they seem to flower endlessly and will keep showing their innate ability as long as the temperature doesn't raise too high in Taipei. Treat our plants with what they need instead of what we need, indeed.

Niphaea oblonga

I do love this easy plant because it is simple to handle. The bloom season just begins and more blooms can be expected because it grows huge this year. I use shallow pot and the main medium are the mixture of lava rock, gravel, perlite and akadama soil.

Primulina

They traditionally flower in the spring, that's why the genera is called "Primulina". These lavender flowers do not last long, but they are a precise biological sign of season change between winter and spring. Let the plants lead the way and reduce human control as few as possible, they will grow stronger and healthier.

I like the way they perform

3 my own Kohleria seedlings in shallow pot, I like the way they perform at this stage.

Strep. Kim

This is the only one Streptocarpus that I grow by far. Precisely speaking, this is the only survival after I moved to new planting area 2 years ago. Because I grow various plants and I usually prefer easy stuff that tolerates the seasonal climate in Taipei, Taiwan. So I don't keep Streptocarpus intentionally. This plant "Kim" supposes to be a tough variety.

Designer's Kohleria 2013

Except Sinn. speciosa "Regina" - São Fidelis (should be easy to find where it is :P) , these photos reveal my prejudice when making cross between Kohleria plants and the prior elements of Kohleria seedling selection in 2013.

March - Time To Wake Up

It's getting warmer and warmer although the northern monsoon sometimes blows to cool down our island. Early birds are reacting to shoot and flower. The best time of the year is coming, for sure.  :)
